​The 2018-19 executive board is filled with a bunch of motivated and dynamic people who are very passionate about promoting the Somali Culture and advancing SSA on the OSU campus 

Safiyo Mohamud
​President

​Safiyo is a third year studying international relations and diplomacy. SSA has been a crucial part of her self development in college, so she’s involved for a third year. This year she wants to focus on creating a more academic and professional based organization. Her top priorities include rebranding the mentorship program, piloting the first SSA mentorship scholarship for high school mentees, raising money for local youth initiatives with a fundraising dinner, and starting the first ever SSA Career night. In addition strengthening SSA’s academic involvement, she also plans to expand SSA’s reach to include the greater diaspora community. This year Safiyo is really excited to the second annual Somali Night and taking it to a new level. She welcomes you to the org and can’t wait to see you at the events!

Idiris Ibrahim
 President

Idiris Ibrahim is a 4th year studying Biology on a pre dental track. Idiris hopes to bridge the gap between young Somalis and higher education. He hopes that this year's mentoring program would be a great success. One thing he loves the most about SSA is the small community he was able to build within one of the largest universities in the country. Idiris hopes to bring some "Sauce" to this year's board.

Ebyan Farah

Secretary

Warda is a third year studying Microbiology. She hopes to see SSA bloom as an organization that holds steadfast to its reputation as a cultural hub for Somali culture. She wants to see the members of SSA to share the many beautiful aspects of the Somali culture in the Columbus community. Warda’s favorite pastimes are exploring the city with friends, and spending time with family.

Bahja Ali

Marketing Chair

Joof is a 3rd year Architecture major. As marketing chair, he hopes to achieve new heights for SSA in terms of increasing their popularity not just to students on campus, but also to the greater Columbus region. His favorite thing about SSA is that it brings together a group of Somali students, as well as non Somali students, that otherwise would not have gotten the chance to know each other as they do with SSA. Some of his favorite hobbies include drawing, playing soccer and drinking coffee.

The impact SSA has had on Ayan has been tremendous. Being the outreach chair, it has allowed her to build positive relationships in the community and work towards uniting both the Somali and campus culture in Columbus. For outside involvement, Ayan is excited to continue working to bridge the gap between both communities! ​

Treasurer

Mohamed is a 4th year biology major on the premed track. As treasurer, he hopes for bigger and better events this year while having no issues with funding it. One thing he loves about the SSA community is how they rep, support, and hope for the best for one another. He is a big fan of trying new things, Hamze “And I’ll be your host” Ahmed, and finding new spots to drink coffee at.

Said is a 3rd year studying Biology, and minoring in Public Health! He hopes for SSA to reach an even higher level this year, and bridge the gap between the student body and the community. Said's favorite thing about SSA is getting to know new people and growing an even deeper love for the Somali culture, and he hopes to showcase that this year through events planning. Some things Said likes to do on his free time includes sleeping, eating, and reflecting deeply on life!

​Asha is the Service Chair for SSA. She is  a third year Public Affairs student with focus on Non-profit Management and Global Health. She lived in Columbus for over 16 years and plans on working in Local Government after graduation. She aspires to own a health care center and is an advocate for Maternal + Infant Health. Asha enjoys to read, skate, and watch movies with her younger siblings.

Samira Shire is a third year Human Nutrition major, with a minor in Biology on the pre-med track. Samira currently serves as the Academic Chair for SSA with the hopes of promoting higher education and success in the Somali community. She feels access to support and resources is essential for academic success, and plans to continue to provide that to Somali students campus wide, and beyond. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, doing anything outdoorsy, and spending time with her family.

Campus Ambassador

Mustafa is a 4 yr Medical Laboratory Science major and will take that degree to become a Pa (Physician Assistant). He joined SSA because his oldest siblings were some of the original founding fathers of SSA and he wants to take SSA to another level, bigger and better than any other year. He loves traveling, eating, anything basketball, and just having fun. ​
