Suad OsmanPresidentSuad is a third year Neuroscience major who is back after a successful stint as SSA treasurer during the 2015-16 academic year. Her hopes for SSA this 2016-17 year is to see it become an organization that is able to connect and better serve Somalis and non-Somalis both on and off campus. Being that there is a large Somali population in the greater Columbus region, Suad hopes to mobilize community leaders within that community. Suad's favorite thing about SSA is that it gives her the opportunity to explore her identity and various things that make her who she is, and the opportunity to meet others who share the same interests as well.

Hamze AhmedVice PresidentHamze is a third year studying Public Affairs, specializing in International Business. He has high hopes for the SSA this year and is excited to share the rich culture, heritage, and history of the Somali people with the OSU campus. Hamze's favorite thing about SSA is interacting closely with the local Somali community in Columbus. In his spare time, Hamze enjoys playing soccer, eating food, and watching YouTube. #MakeSSAKhatarAgain

Adar ElmiSecretaryAdar is a second year studying Public Health. She hopes that SSA is able to achieve the goals that the board has set for themselves this year and that we are able to get many more people interested in the Somali culture and involved in the organization so it can continue. Her favorite thing about SSA is how this organization is actively trying to preserve Somali culture so that later generations that attend Ohio State can experience it. In addition, Adar's favorite pastimes are reading and learning new languages.

Fatumo HassanMarketing ChairFatumo is a third year majoring in Business. Her hope for SSA this year is to be able to help establish SSA as an even more well known cultural association at OSU. Her favorite thing about SSA is being connected with other Somali youth and being able to showcase the Somali culture to others on campus and beyond. Her favorite pastime is trying out new foods at different restaurants and cafés.

As outreach chair, she wants to connect with the vast Somali community in Columbus and provide entertaining and educational events. Her favorite thing about SSA is how it brings the Somali community together and unite on unique topics and issues. Her favorite hobby is watching Netflix.

Halima MohamedOutreach ChairHalima is a third year student studying Molecular Genetics. This year, she hopes to take advantage of opportunities to work with more youth in the community outside of the OSU student body. She loves how SSA bring the Somali community together. Halima usually takes every chance to spend time with family and friends.

Nimo AwilTreasurerNimo is a fourth year Food Science/ Pharmaceutical Science Major. She envisions SSA to be well connected to the Somali community since Ohio is the 2nd largest Somali communities in America. Her favorite thing about being a part of SSA is simply interacting with people, learning new things in the same environment. She wants SSA to open doors for many and to impact a lot of Somali students. Her favorite hobbies are graphic designing and reading.

He wants SSA to be vibrant community where strong relationships are formed and members support and learn from one another even outside of formal meetings. His favorite thing about SSA is hearing stories and perspectives from his Somali neighbors. His favorite hobbies are basketball and listening to music.

Asha MohamudEvent ChairAsha is a fourth year student, double majoring in Health Sciences and Environmental Public Health, on a Pre-Med track. Asha joined SSA because she wanted to play a role in planning events for students on campus and for the Somali community. In doing so, she hopes to build a deeper connection between the students here on campus and the Somali community of Columbus in order to showcase the Somali culture. Joining SSA gave her a chance to learn more about the Somali culture for herself. Some of Asha's hobbies include reading, baking, and eating.
